Microsoft’s Free Anti-Malware - A strategy to take down the Google Giant?

Microsoft has announced it will be launching a free antivirus / anti-malware program. Now no one knows how good (or bad) it will be since it is not released (even in a beta form) but why do you think Microsoft would give away (for free mind you) their new antivirus program?

Could it be Microsoft is just that nice?
