Meet a Team Member: Charlie Hill

We’re only as good as our team. Our teamwork is one of our company’s Core Values (ask any of us and we’ll tell you the rest of them). Every month we’d like to introduce you to another member of our awesome team. So far you’ve met a bunch of great folks. This month, we’re introducing you to Weston’s newest member, Network Consultant, Charlie Hill.

Name, and title and (to quote Office Space) “What would you say you do here?”: Charlie Hill. Network Engineer Security Specialist. I help lost networks find their way.

Hometown and how did you end up where you are? Born in Las Vegas, I fled at first opportunity. I had the pleasure of sampling life in California, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Washington and Oregon. Oregon was my favorite, so here I am.

How did you end up at Weston? While searching for a full-time position in the area, I asked around for suggestions and references. Everything I heard about Weston was positive. It sounded like a solid team to join. I’m very happy with my choice.

Favorite part about Weston? The team at Weston works well together. Everyone seems to enjoy working with everyone else.

What do you do for fun in your spare time? After spending time with my wonderful wife and two amazing young children, I have at least twenty minutes a day to spend on my hobbies: mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, and blacksmithing.

What do in your spare time that nobody would guess? The blacksmithing hobby catches most people by surprise. It’s the opposite of working with computers; in blacksmithing, hammers are encouraged, so are sparks and flame.

If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be? I’d like to see the results of the first election to take place on another planet.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Taking out the trash. why don’t robots do this yet?

If you had to pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Perspicacious. Editor’s Note: I had to look up this word – figured I’d save you the trouble.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Dr. Alan Turing. I’d like to talk with him about updating the Turing test for artificial intelligence. I think we need to move the goalposts on this one.

Choose a movie title for the story of your life. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Hill, with music by Vince Guaraldi

If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you and why? Jackie Chan. I expect this to be an action movie, and he’s got the moves.

What do you want to be when you grow up? My own stunt double.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose? Autocorrect: For any mistake I’m about to make.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in your life? Open mic stand up comedy. The most adrenaline laced experience I’ve ever had. More than whitewater kayaking or downhill mountain biking.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? Yves Rossy. He flies around with a jetpack and wings he made himself – and that’s his JOB.

If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why? Sloth, so I could go back to sleep. I love sleeping.

What is the worst pet you have ever had? A sloth. All they do is sleep.

How do you get your caffeine? Now that I work with Weston – daily: two cups strong every morning.

What’s the strangest talent you have? I speak fluent Penguin.

If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring? Assuming all my food and water needs are met, I’d bring a fully loaded Kindle, reading glasses, and sunscreen.

Where’s Waldo? There are three Waldos: Waldo, Florida; Waldo, Maine; and Waldo, Arkansas. Charming towns, each one.

A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here? “Skeert chip lblblbl eek pip.” That’s how you order a Tequila in Penguin.

If I opened your fridge, what would I see? Delicious debris. Leftovers from my wife’s amazing cooking. And possibly a drunk penguin.

Here’s $20. What are you going to do with it? One word: Bitcoin
