Meet a Team Member: Evan Colegrove

We’re only as good as our team, and they’re pretty awesome. Whenever we bring on a new team member, we like to introduce them (see all of our past team member introductions here). This month, we introduce you to our newest member of our Anchorage team, Evan Colegrove.

  • Name, and title and (to quote Office Space) “What would you say you do here?” Evan Colegrove, Network Consultant – provide great service to our clients and support to our team, implement solutions and keep it all working – and constantly pester Dylan with questions.
  • Hometown and how did you end up where you are? Demorest, GA, a small town at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains. I fled to Anchorage after becoming fatigued of living in greater Atlanta, for fresh scenery and to be closer to family that I have here.
  • How did you end up at Weston? When I started thinking about moving to Alaska, I began to look for employment with a company that would help me further develop in my IT career. I applied for multiple positions and received a few other offers, but ultimately I decided to accept the position with Weston after an interview with Jeffrey and Brock that was very enjoyable and showed me that Weston would be the best place for me to learn and grow.
  • Favorite part about Weston? I really enjoy how small and friendly our team is, and that I can get exposure to all sorts of technologies and solutions with our clients here. I came from a corporate environment and the change in structure has been a breath of fresh air for me professionally.
  • What do you do for fun in your spare time? When the weather’s good, or even just tolerable, I love the outdoors. Hiking, Kayaking, & Fishing are some of my favorite activities. When the weather is bad or it’s dark, I spend my time playing video games. I also enjoy tabletop games and card games with my friends. I also am a big fan of two sports teams, the Atlanta Braves of MLB, and the Georgia Bulldogs of NCAA football, both of whom won their respective championships in the 2021 season after 26 & 41 year droughts!
  • What do in your spare time that nobody would guess? I love to cook, and will regularly be found in the kitchen on weekday evenings. Grilling is my passion, and I also have gotten skilled at making low and slow smoked BBQ. I also tend to enjoy watching science, nature, and history documentaries, and reading books on macroeconomic and historical topics.
  • If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be? Past: the Big Bang – Future: the first interstellar-capable spacecraft
  • What chore do you absolutely hate doing? I will cook, do laundry, dust, vacuum, and even clean bathrooms before I do the dishes.
  • If you had to pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Analytical
  • If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? FDR, Lincoln, Ghandi, Jesus
  • What do you want to be when you grow up? I’ve never wanted to grow up
  • If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose? Time Travel – The ability to go back in time and see significant events, or just relive one’s memories would be incredible.
  • What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in your life? Other than driving alone from Georgia to Alaska, I’ve sailed a small boat with my dad and two others from Puerto Rico to Jacksonville Florida.
  • If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be? Any billionaire. Could make the world a much better place with just a week of access to that much money.
  • If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why? A bird of prey – eagle, falcon, hawk, owl etc. No predators, flight, super vision and speed? Sign me up!
  • What is the worst pet you have ever had? A hamster I had as a boy that I unaffectionately named Chomper because he’d bite anyone who tried to handle him
  • How do you get your caffeine? I try to stay off the stuff but I do enjoy good coffee semi-regularly
  • What’s the strangest talent you have? I can remember exact dates of incredibly obscure events, such as movie/game releases, sporting events, insignificant life events and other random occurrences.
  • If you were on an island and could only bring three things, what would you bring? A satellite phone, with a beach chair and drinks for while I wait for my ride off said island.
  • Where’s Waldo? Everywhere, and nowhere – simultaneously.
  • If I opened your fridge, what would I see? Lots of fresh vegetables that I’m DEFINITELY going to eat BEFORE the cheesecake in the back….
  • Here’s $20. What are you going to do with it? Put it into my investment accou………Nah, I’m getting pizza 😂
